Unitron is a hearing aid manufacturer with its operations expanding to about 73 nations. It is a US based company with its headquarters located in Silicon Valley. Its corporate headquarters is located in Ontario, Canada. The company was founded in 1964 and is part of SONOVA group which employs about 7200 employees worldwide. The company claims to spend 45,000 hours every year just verifying its products.
The company has made partnerships with several educational institutions to push forward its research and development programs. The academic institutions are mostly US based for example – University of Toronto, University of Iowa, Louisiana Tech, University of Western Ontario’s National Centre for Audiology and University of Rochester.
The company has several patented products. In India the company has been targeting tier-2 cities where analog hearing aids are used and sold. The company aims to target such cities and convert this Analog hearing aid market to digital hearing aid user based market. In India it has a price range of about INR 6000 – INR 1.5 Lakh. It’s products are not manufactured in India and imported from Canada. The Indian wing of the company has plans to capture at least 15% of the Indian hearing aid market. The company sells its products through a distribution chain made up of audiologists.
Some of its products come with smart features like smart focus, speech enhancement by reducing the background noise in a noisy environment. The company is closely watching the switch from analog hearing aids to digital hearing aids even in government sponsored programs which the company Managing Director – Rakesh Ojha expects will open new avenues for selling digital hearing aid in India. However, from worldwide perspective the company is aiming at India, Easter European nations, South America and China for future growth.
